The Miles Behind Sober Endurance

We didn't just read about this stuff in books.
We’ve lived it — on roads, trails, bad days, comeback days, and sober miles that changed everything.
Some of the best days of our lives are on this page. 💙
And none of it happens without sobriety — because this was never just about running. It was about getting our lives back.

L.A. Marathon

Vinny had wanted to run the LA Marathon for years.

When he finally got to the start line, he didn’t rush it. He took it all in — the crowds, the city, every mile.

But this one was different.
Amber wasn’t there beside him. She was home, sick, and he felt it.

You can see it here — proud to be there, but missing his person.

Still, he kept moving.

Because that’s what this is about now — showing up, no matter what.

La Cuesta Ranch 30k

This one was no joke.
Mud, steep hills, and no clear trail — just figuring it out as you go.

We started together, but Vinny took off. (no surprise there 😅)

I took my time. Slowed it down. Just kept moving.

Not every race is about speed.
Sometimes it’s just about testing your limits and enjoying the views from the top.

Ran this one with friends- it's always more fun that way.

Terrain was tough, but the views kept hitting.

California trails don’t get old. Still blown away every time.

This is the kind of stuff I’ll keep showing up for.

Rio Del Lago 100M

Amber & Vinny 29:53:58

Amber faced the challenge of running 100 miles twice before, but this time was different. Vinny by her side pacing her through the grueling journey, they tackled each mile together. Despite suffering from severe blisters after mile 70, Amber pushed through the pain and crossed the finish line just before the cutoff. The support from their sober running community made all the difference, providing essential pacing and crew assistance along the way.

Tamalpa Headlands 50K

Amber 6:19:29  Vinny 5:47:04

The USATF 50K Championship race in stunning Marin Headlands was an unforgettable experience. Despite a mid-race course reroute that took us down and up the legendary and challenging Dipsea Trail, we both had fantastic races. The trail, with its seemingly endless steps, tested our limits, but the breathtaking views made every moment worthwhile. It was a true testament to our endurance and love for the sport!

Trail Palooza 25K

Vinny 2:29  Amber 2:36

An unforgettable local race in Orcutt, CA! This was a whole vibe, featuring an MTB race, three trail race distances, live music, and delicious food trucks. We ran hard, with Amber taking 2nd femal and Vinny 4th overall. Our SLCD run club friends, Dan, Art, and Wendy, showed up and showed out! It was a fantastic time spent with amazing people!

San Diego Trail Races

This one took us back to one of our favorite races, where we enjoyed a runcation at our beloved secluded ranch. Amber once again conquered 50M, overcoming GI issues along the way. Meanwhile, Vinny battled through Plantar Fasciitis but still impressively secured 4th overall in the Half Marathon. It was another memorable trip filled with challenges and triumphs!

NORCAL Backyard Ultra

Vinny 73M Amber 62M

We had high hopes of hitting 100 miles, but it just wasn't in the cards this time. However, the event was a blast and incredibly organized, filled with high vibes! connected with many sober friends who came out to run and support, making new friendships along the way. Overall, we both finished with at least 100K for the day, making a fantastic weekend in the cool city of Folsom CA.

Spooners Cove 30K

Vinny & Amber 3:13:51

At the 2024 RRR retreat in SLO, we embraced the breathtaking beauty of Montana de Oro State Park. We raced along the stunning coastline and ventured up the majestic mountains. We cheered for our friends, including Doug, who completed his first 50K! Amber and Vinny crossed the line together with Amber winning her age group and Vinny placing second!
